MEET THE SUPERINTENDENT

Superintendent
Dr. David Flowers

Dr. David Flowers became the 29th superintendent for Hutchinson Public Schools on July 1, 2007. A native Kansan, Flowers previously was been superintendent at Fargo, N.D., District No. 1.

The educator was superintendent at Fargo from 1999 to 2007. Prior to becoming superintendent at Fargo, Dr. Flowers served as interim superintendent of Ann Arbor, Mich., Public Schools from 1998 to 1999 and was deputy superintendent for instructional services at Ann Arbor from 1994 to 1998.

Dr. Flowers started his educational career in Kansas. He was a teacher and coach at Fort Riley Middle School in 1973 to 1980. He took his first administrative job with Geary County Schools in 1980 as director of Title IV-C, innovative programs, a position he held until 1982. From 1982 to 1986, Dr. Flowers was director of secondary education for Geary County Schools and served as associate superintendent in Geary County from 1986 to 1994.

In 1988, Dr. Flowers was honored as the Outstanding Curriculum Leader in Kansas by the Kansas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

The superintendent received his PhD in education administration and foundations from Kansas State University in 1983. He received his masters in curriculum and instruction from K-State in 1977 and his bachelors in secondary education from KSU in 1973. He received an associate of arts degree from Butler County Community College in 1971.
