7th Grade Orchestra

Over the course of Sept. 14-16th weekend members of the HMS orchestras attended an orchestra camp at Rock Springs 4H Campgrounds. Sponsored by the Kansas Chapter of the American String Teacher Association, the weekend camp provides an excellent "retreat" for students who are interested in enhancing their skills AND having fun, fun, fun! Horseback riding, get-to-know-you games, jazzin with their instruments, and a talent show round out the lengthy rehearsals and preparation for their concert on the last day of camp. Our students worked hard, played hard, and were very nice to the other staff & students! Mr. Hawkins would like to thank the parents who registered their kids for the trip!

Performs at Western

Kansas Orchestra

Festival

On November 16th and 17th, the 8th grade orchestra attended the Western Kansas Orchestra Festival.  The students had the opportunity to work with two wonderful clinicians and perfect pieces they had been working on all of this year.  Several students auditioned for chair placement in their orchestras with the following results:

Michael Delaney, violin 1, first chair
Yamee Lee, violin 1, fifth chair
Carissa Meyer, violin 2, fourth chair
Mary Torrez, viola, third chair
Megan Linke, viola, third chair
Cristian Marroquin, cello, third chair
Tim Wise, cello, sixth chair

The final concert for the Western Kansas Orchestra Festival was a huge success, and the students had a great experience overall.  Congratulations to the orchestra for all your hard work!

The Orchestra has also been preparing for the Winter Vocal and Orchestra Concert, taking place on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:00pm.  Thanks to all the students for their hard work this year, and thank you to the parents for all your encouragement!
