Greetings,

We have officially made it to spring and state testing time. Your students are working on the Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies Assessments. The preliminary results for the Reading look very good so we are going to keep our fingers crossed and hope that they hold. We also have a very busy spring with activities coming up. We have the league music festivals coming up in April as well. We are hosting the Band on April 23 at HMS-7 and the Orchestra at HMS-8. The choir will go to Maize on April 30. If you want to see some outstanding musical performances this would be an excellent opportunity and we wish those musicians the best in there efforts. We currently have over 160 kids out for track and 40 out for boys tennis. We will be wishing all those athletes the best as well.

HOMEWORK KANSAS

With the third trimester of the school year going fast and state assessments here, everyone – students, parents and teachers – should take advantage of Homework Kansas. Dr. Jackie Lakin, KSDE Information Management Program Consultant, announced that Homework Kansas is now available online. Just over a year ago, the free service was introduced to Kansas students 4th through 12th grade. The site offers interactive guidance in math, science, social studies and English from 4 to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Math and science assistance in Spanish is available from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Homework Kansas automatically connects participants with a tutor, who could be any of the 1,300 teachers, graduate students and other professionals scattered across North America. All tutors are subjected to background and reference checks.

To access Homework Kansas, students simply need to go to www.homework.org and enter their Kansas Library card from their local public library. The service can be accessed from any internet-connected computer. If the student does not already have a Kansas library card, they can acquire one for the State Library of Kansas at the homework site immediately.
