In English and Science we have been working on a project called "Diary of an Endangered Species.”  Students selected animals that are endangered. Then Mrs. Engel read them the stories, "Diary of a Worm" and "Diary of a Spider".  Next they researched their animal, filling out a questionnaire, and citing at least three resources.  After that they created a book using "Comic Life", a program on the Apple computers. We "published" each book and students will make a trip to Allen Elementary during English class to read their books to younger students.  Following this project students will also start a problem-based unit addressing what they can do to help an endangered species.

When flipping a coin, what is the probability of getting a head three times in a row? This is the talk that has been coming from Mrs. Cline’s room lately. Not only must students be able to determine probability, they must also be able to read a story problem and decide whether it is simple or compound probability. Students can refer to their foldable that contains the probability notes.  The next unit is percents and what a better unit to study right before Christmas with all those percent off sales! Just a reminder, the end of the trimester is quickly approaching, so make sure work is made-up if you are absent.

Your student's Accelerated Goal due date is fast approaching. AR goals are due Friday, Nov. 2nd. They know what their AR goal is and can keep track of how close they are to achieving it by checking on the computer in the library. In literature we are starting the second section of the literature text and will be spending more time comparing and contrasting different texts and analyzing characters.

In social studies the students are finishing up a unit on The Constitution and will be moving on to the presidency of George Washington.  There are 30 students signed up for the Washington D.C. trip!  Don’t forget about Dillon’s certificates!!!
