McCandless PTO

McCandless Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meets the first Tuesday of every month, September through May at 6:00pm in the school library. PTO meetings are open to parents/guardians, teachers/staff, and members of the community. Be "in the know" and participate in making an impact at our school. We welcome your input and involvement. Membership is free and does not require any paperwork or obligation. Earn a McCandless Paw Buck for each meeting you attend. McCandless Paw Bucks can be used like cash at the school carnival or at any book fair.

OUR MISSION

To promote the welfare of McCandless students in school, home and community; to increase communication so that parents, teachers and staff may work cooperatively toward enhancing the education of our students; to conduct fund-raising events for the benefit of McCandless students.

PTO SPONSORED EVENTS

AYP Testing Pep: To help pep our students up for yearly AYP testing each classroom 4-6th grade is supplied a decorated bucket full of special candy, gum and snacks.

 

Classroom Supplies: PTO provides each teacher with $100 to spend on special classroom supplies like display items, art projects, prizes and snacks. PTO also provides each teacher with 1 ream of white copy paper for additional copy needs.

 

Field Day: PTO provides fruit bars for each student during Field Day.

 

Field Trips: PTO funds classroom field trips throughout the year. Each teacher is given a budget of $10.00 per student plus an additional $200.00 per grade for extra busing money to plan and coordinate field trips.

 

Float Friday: To help our students and teachers celebrate the end of AYP testing, PTO sponsors Float Friday at the end of April. Each student and staff member gets an ice cream float and a small break outside to sit and enjoy the sunshine -- a well-deserved break after weeks of studying and testing!

 

Holiday Celebration: PTO sponsors a holiday celebration for all students at McCandless. A fun G rated movie is rented and shown. Each classroom is also provided with drinks and snacks to enjoy during the movie by PTO.

 

Safety Patrol Party: In appreciate for all the students that participate in the before/after school safety patrol, a special party and field trip is planned in May.

 

School Open House: PTO will have an information table set up in the gym during Open House in August to welcome all students and parents. Along with information we will be selling McCandless school items such as t-shirt, hoodies, etc. We will also be serving cookies! Be sure to stop by our table during open house and say hi.

 

Staff Appreciation: On behalf of our students, PTO provides each staff member a small token of our appreciation in special thanks for everything they do for our students throughout the year. In addition PTO provides Culligan drinking water for staff, two lunches for teachers during parent≠-teacher conferences, and a birthday card and small gift on their special day.

 

Student Awards: PTO will be giving out small special awards at various events such as perfect attendance, homemade Halloween costume contest, etc.

 

Student Directory: PTO prepares a student directory and calendar to give out to each student in late September.

 

McCandless T-Shirts: Each new student to the school as well as all Kindergarten students will receive one free t-shirt sponsored by the PTO. Let your McCandless Pride show!

 

Yearbook: McCandless staff puts a yearbook together in May. PTO pays for the printing and each student receives one for free.

 

PTO FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

Box Tops for Education: Clip box tops and earn cash for our school. Help us earn cash each time you shop for groceries. Clip box top from hundreds of your favorite products such as Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Juicy Juice, Ziploc, Kleenex, Heft and many more. Each box top is worth 10Ę for McCandless Ė that adds up fast! In 2011 our school earned $1,253.10 from box tops for education. We have two box top contests each school year and the class that collects the most box tops during each contest wins a swimming party from the Hutchinson YMCA. So start clipping those box tops and send them to PTO!

 

Campbellís Labels for Education: Clips and save the UPC (proof of purchase) part of any participating product to earn equipment and supplies for our school. Labels are worth 1, 5 or 10 points each. Although Campbellís is the main product, other participants in the labels for education program include: BIC, Post Cereals, Prego, Swanson, V8 drinks, Pepperidge Farm, Pop Secret, & Spaghettios. We are currently using our labels for additional playground equipment and fun games.

 

Coke Reward Points: All Coke Products have a reward code (14 digit) printed inside the box/lid of each product. To enter your coke reward points log onto www.mycokerewards.com enter your reward code and donate the accumulated points to McCandless. Our school's success depends upon the active involvement of the community. We are currently saving the points for additional playground and PE equipment.

 

McCandless Carnival: Starting in 2011-2012 school year the annual carnival will be in the fall. We have games, inflatableís, candy walk, raffles items, Wii Just Dance game, food and fun. Funds raised from the carnival go towards student field trips. Each grade level will create a basket for the carnival for the raffle. Students will be asked to donate small cases of soft drinks, water and packages of full size candy bars for the carnival. The classroom with the most donated items will win a class party! We are always looking for volunteers to help on the day of the carnival with games, prizes and food. Please let us know if you can help.

 

McCandless Spirit Wear: During the fall PTO will be selling McCandless t-shirt, hoodies and other McCandless items for the whole family. Some of these items will also be available during open house in August. Each new staff and student to the school as well as all Kindergarten students will receive one free t-shirt sponsored by the PTO. Show off your McCandless spirit and let everyone know that McCandless is awesome.

 

Papa Johnís Pizza Night: The 3rd Tuesday of each month is Papa Johnís pizza night. You can help raise money for our school by eating Papa Johnís. Make sure to turn your flyer into Papa Johnís to help your class earn a pizza party. The classroom with the most pizza participants each month wins a Pizza Party. Papa Johnís Pizza nights are September 20, October 18, November 15, December 20, January 17, February 21, March 20, April 17 and May 15.

 

School Year Skating Fundraiser: Skateland sponsors a McCandless Skate Night every other month. McCandless earns $1.00 for every student that participates. The class with the most skaters wins a pizza party from Skateland. So lace up those skates and come on out! Skateland dates for this school year are September 29, November 17, January 26 and March 22, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

 

Spring & Fall Book Fairs: Twice a year PTO hosts a Book Fair. Book Fair flyers will be sent home the week before each book fair with your student, giving you the days and times the book fair will be open. Proceeds from the book fairs are used to purchase books and supplies for the library and classrooms.

 

Spring & Fall Fundraisers: Twice a year students are sent home with fund-raising packets which will include a variety of gift & food brochures. Although we encourage students to visit with family, friends, and co-workers about these fundraisers, we do not want students going door to door. Money earned from both of these fundraisers are used for classroom field trips. The classroom with the most items sold will win a class party from PTO.

 

Summer Movie & Skating Passes: In April/May PTO will be selling summer movie and skate passes. What a great way to have fun during the summer! PTO earns 40% of each pass purchased. Money raised is used for classroom field trips, student awards and PTO supplies.
