COMMUNICATIONS

The communications department has three distinct opportunities for concentration.

If you have a strong sense of the esthetic – and eye for color and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation for beauty, then you might consider taking Graphic Design courses.  The focus of this program is on studying and using layout and design concepts used in the graphic design field.

The high school print journalism program is a three - to - four year sequence of courses which introduces students to some of the aspects of print journalism, from various levels and styles of journalistic writing, to computer desktop layout and design. Photojournalism skills can also be learned and specialized in as well. Students can also choose to study the field of advertising if they so choose. Students in advanced print journalism will choose to produce either the school yearbook or newspaper and will be completely responsible for its production.

Broadcast Journalism is a perfect balance between individual work and group projects.  This program integrates media of all kinds in an interesting and challenging setting.  Students in this program learn to report, produce, and deliver the news for radio, TV, and other broadcast media.
