HUTCHERSON HEADSTART

Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs which serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

To participate, families, must live in Reno County and meet federal income guidelines. Head Start serves about 280 children and their families.

The Head Start Program is a free program for children ages 3 or 4 on or before Aug. 31. The Early Head Start Program is a free program for pregnant women and families with children to age 3.

Head Start services are available at the Shirlie J. Hutcherson Center, Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen, McCandless Elementary School, Nickerson Elementary School, South Hutchinson Elementary School, Fairfield West Elementary School, Fairfield East Elementary School, Haven Preschool, Obee Grade School, Union Valley Elementary School and Central Christian.

Chris Baird is the Reno County Head Start director.
