WHAT WE DO
A staff of about 30 provides a wide range of services to support education in the district. Six of the district's administrators have offices in the Administration Center.
Education in Reno County dates to 1865 when Rebecca A. Shreve Baxter became the first teacher in Reno County District No. 1. It would be more than a year before Reno County formally was incorporated.
When it came time to unify school districts in the mid 1960s, Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education members opted to set boundaries at the existing Hutchinson city limits. The decision saved Hutchinson from having to buy and operate a fleet of buses.
Geographically, USD 308 is the third smallest school district in Kansas with only 14 square miles. The district educates more than 5,000 students in pre-school through high school.
