 NEW YEAR MOTIVATION
If you are going to make a resolution keep it simple and keep it to yourself.  Don't set out to make massive, wholesale changes to your eating and exercising habits.  Crawl before you walk, walk before you run and all of that one-step-at-a-time stuff.

Weathering Winter Foods

The foods that talk to us in the winter tend to be hearty, comforting and  are often packed with artery-clogging fat, calories, and sodium.  The truth, experts say, is that there really are no "bad" foods.  A few bites of even the most fattening food can fit into your diet.

You can have your chocolate and eat it too.  That is if it is dark.  Pure dark chocolate contains a high ammount of heart healthy antioxidant.  Enjoy it with black grapes and wash it down with a beverage containing natural cocoa powder or tea,  additional excellent sources of these heart healthy compounds.

    Cold Weather Health Tips

  • Wash hands often
  • Bundle up - stay warm
  • Manage stress-don't overcommit-keep holiday spending in check
  • Always buckle up- even when in a hurry
  • Watch for fire hazzards- candles, space heaters and fireplaces
  • Prepare food safely- watch for cross contamination- cook foods to proper temprature-refrigerate promptly
  • Eat healthy- get moving, eat pleanty of fruit and vegtables-watch portion size, fat and sugar content

Suggestions for Safe Winter Travel
  • Have car services, wipers and tires checked
  • Keep fuel tank as full as possible to avoid ice in the gas tank or fuel lines
  • Have a winter survival kit in car, including: blanket, water, non-perishable food items, flashlight,  jumper cables and first aid kit.
  • Before leaving check weather and road conditions.
  • Be sure cell phones are charged, take car charger .
