STAFF RESOURCES - SUBSTITUTE TEACHER RESOURCES

"Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions." ~Author Unknown.

"Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater." ~Gail Godwin

Thank you for your interest in Substituting Teaching for Hutchinson Public Schools. We have an excellent school system that is on a continuous improvement track. However, there are times when our highly qualified teachers are absent from the classroom. It is fortunate we have a strong pool of substitute teachers, but continue to seek additional substitutes.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Types of substitute teacher licenses:

  • Standard: Requires a valid Kansas teacher’s license. This License is good for a period of 5 years.

  • Emergency: Requires a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university. This License must be renewed annually after July 1 by submitting an application and fee.

Pay: Substitute teachers are paid $77 dollars per day or $38.50 for a half-day. Substitutes who continuously serve in the same long-term assignment will receive $90 beginning on the 16th day.

Costs: There is a $36 licensing fee that is required by the Kansas State Department of Education and a $44 fee for fingerprinting.

AESOP: Hutchinson Public Schools utilizes a web-based program (AESOP) that logs teacher absences. This allows substitute teachers to surf for jobs on the internet or wait for automated telephone calls. Substitutes have the freedom to indicate any building or teacher preferences within AESOP and also have the option to block out days when they are unavailable to substitute teach to avoid getting unnecessary phone calls from the automated system.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER?

Stop by the Administration Center and pick up a substitute teacher packet or call Melinda at (620) 665-4413 and a packet will be mailed.

Upon completion of the packet a mandatory training session is required. Once the substitute teachers successfully complete the training and receive their license from the Kansas State Department of Education, they will be placed in the substitute pool.
