USD 308 Weekly Activities Recap & Upcoming Events
It was an exciting and action-packed week across USD 308, with Salthawks representing our district with pride at every level!
Salthawk Wrestling Shines at State
It was a big weekend for Salthawk Wrestling at Heartland Arena as our athletes competed at the state tournament Friday and Saturday.
The boys team earned an impressive 4th place team finish. Individual highlights included:
Dion Brown – 2nd place
Cruz Cannon – 2nd place
Max Harris – 3rd place
Jackson Anderson – 4th place
James Hill -- 5th place
On the girls side, Aaida Brown led the way with a strong 3rd place finish.
We are incredibly proud of the perseverance and competitive spirit our wrestlers demonstrated on the big stage.
Forensics Take on new challenges in Wichita
Hutchinson Debate & Forensics traveled to Wichita East this weekend to compete in one of the most challenging tournaments of the season. Students embraced the opportunity to test their skills against tough competition, bringing home multiple honors.
Highlights include:
Duo Interpretation – Brayden Graham & Mersadies Marciano, 6th place overall
International Extemporaneous Speaking – Nikon Sublett, 5th place (second straight medal finish!)
Original Oration – Mersadies Marciano, 4th place and State Qualifier

Middle School Athletics Update
Hutchinson Middle School Athletics continued competition this week, with our 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams showcasing teamwork and Salthawk pride as their seasons wind down.
Looking Ahead: A Big Week for Salthawks!
SkillsUSA Kansas Championships
Hutchinson Career & Technical Education Academy students will compete Monday through Wednesday at the SkillsUSA Kansas Championships held at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. These students will demonstrate real-world technical skills and career readiness in a highly competitive environment. We wish them the best of luck as they represent USD 308 on the state stage!
Bowling goes to StateThursday, March 5th, Salthawk Bowling heads to Wichita to compete at 5A State Championships, at Bowlero Northrock, 3232 N. Rock Road, Wichita. Arya Byard, sophomore, is the lone competitor, she will compete at 1:40 pm.
Substate Basketball Begins
Hutchinson High School kicks off substate play on the road:
Boys at Topeka West HS – Tuesday at 6:00 PM
Girls at Andover Central HS – Wednesday at 6:00 PM
We’re excited to cheer on our teams as they compete for a chance to advance!
Hutch High Theatre Department will perform Radium Girls March 5-7th at the HHS Performing Arts Center, all performances start at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online at https://hutchtheatre.ludus.com/index.php or at the door. Radium Girls is a true story about female factory workers in the 1920s who were poisoned by radioactive paint while painting watch dials. Told they were working with a safe "miracle" substance, they developed horrific illnesses like "radium jaw" and fought a long, courageous legal battle against their employers for justice.
Hutchinson Middle School Events
7th Grade Boys Basketball plays tonight at Valley Center Middle School.
8th Grade Boys Basketball hosts at the Hutchinson Middle School 8.
HMS Choir travels to Derby on Wednesday for a Vocal Music Festival.
8th graders interested in (TAG Salthawk Track & Field) can attend an informational meeting Tuesday, March 3rd, in the HMS8 commons.
Elementary Spelling Bee
This Saturday at 8:00 AM, finalists from each elementary school will compete in the district Spelling Bee at Reno Valley Middle School. We look forward to celebrating these outstanding students and their academic excellence.
Across wrestling mats, debate rooms, basketball courts, performance stages, and competition floors, our Salthawks continue to demonstrate what it means to strive for excellence.
Athletics and extracurricular activities are more than events on a calendar — they are powerful learning experiences that embody our mission of educating and empowering every Salthawk for life and our vision of today’s students prepared for tomorrow’s world.
