Hutchinson, KS – May 19, 2025 – The Hutchinson Public Library is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the Hutchinson Public Schools, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for students within the district. This innovative collaboration will ensure that every elementary student enrolled in Hutchinson Public Schools receives a library card, granting them access to a wealth of resources and learning materials.
Beginning in May, students will be able to enjoy borrowing privileges, allowing them to dive into a diverse array of books, e-resources, and multimedia materials available at the library. This partnership underscores the commitment of both organizations to foster a culture of reading and academic excellence within the community. To kick off the partnership, Hutchinson Public Library staff, Miss Darcie and Miss Amy, attended each elementary school to promote summer reading and pass out library cards. Students were provided information on how to use their new library card for in-person and digital options.
"Access to literature and resources is crucial for student development," said Youth Services Library Darcie Canfield-Riggs. “By providing every elementary student with a library card, we are opening up a world of possibilities for learning and exploration.”
Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson of Hutchinson Public Schools echoed this sentiment, stating, “We believe this partnership will empower our students to become lifelong learners, encouraging their curiosity and imagination. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between library resources and classroom learning, creating a seamless educational experience.”
In addition to providing library cards, the students will gain access to all Hutchinson Public Library events tailored for students, including reading challenges, and technology access. These programs are designed to complement the school curriculum and engage students in meaningful ways. This partnership not only benefits individual students but also strengthens community ties by promoting collaborative learning opportunities. Both organizations are committed to ongoing communication and support to ensure that the partnership evolves and meets the needs of students and families.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to support their children in using their new library cards, fostering a home environment that values reading and discovery. Membership numbers are tied to student account numbers and do not duplicate already existing library memberships.
With this partnership, the Hutchinson Public Library and Hutchinson Public Schools are setting a precedent for community collaboration that prioritizes student success.
