Dear USD 308 Parents:
No school for USD 308 on Tuesday, January 7.
As I drove around town and our schools this afternoon, it is still clear that we are contending with a stubborn layer of ice on all sidewalks, driveways, and roadways in and around our schools. Ensuring your child or children’s safe return to school is very important to me; therefore, I am cancelling school for Tuesday. Stay safe and warm,
Dr. Johnson

HutchCC students engage with Graber students: Earlier this month, Hutchinson Community College Instructor Amber Carithers, walked from HutchCC to Graber Elementary School with her Children’s Literature class. The HutchCC students, comprised of both freshmen and sophomores, had prepared lessons to present to Haley Jenks’ third grade class during their unit on fables and folktales.
The group, some aspiring educators and some not, were tasked with writing a story from start to finish, in a small group setting, and then creating a lesson that included a story presentation on a felt board.
Graber students were rapt! Each story took three to six minutes to present and after each one, Mrs. Jenks called on her students to volunteer what they learned. They were quick to pick up on themes of kindness, patience, and using good manners from the felt board fables.
Lessons were learned by both the guest teachers and young students. “I learned to be patient with them and to show confidence by using my teacher voice.” said HutchCC student, Katie Herman.
Abel Jones, Art student at HutchCC, discovered various techniques for integrating lessons into diverse activities. While he is not majoring in Elementary Education, he noted that today's experience improved his communication skills and could also prove beneficial in parenting.
